Bouquets for Nestldown Wedding

August 25, 2009 Posted by - Mary Lois and Anna
These are images from a wedding we had yesterday. The venue was down in the Santa Cruz area at the gorgeous Nestldown.  I really look forward to seeing what can only be gorgeous photos from Mel Barlow.

These bouquets were luscious and wild and elegant and feminine. Lots of cool textures...my favorite..mmmmm...texxxturrrre.

Explosion of Grasses

Another sweet spot in my house.

I think this good be a phone, simple, easy centerpiece for a rustic wedding with long tables.
(EDIT: what kind of crazy sentence is that? Does no one edit this stuff? I'm guessing I meant this could be a fun, simple, easy centerpiece....but the phone was probably ringing as I wrote it, and who was on the other end was probably good)

Flowers Really Do Make Us Happy - It's Science

August 12, 2009 Posted by - Mary Lois and Anna
These are photos of flowers in my house. I put them in my bedroom...there they are in when I go to sleep, and there they are when I wake up. I also have a stump in my house that is sort of a feature spot for flowers. It makes me happy, to look at them there, all perfect, in their moment. And it turns out there's scientific research to back my feelings. When does that ever happen? A Harvard study shows "that flowers feed compassion, chase away anxieties, provides a boost of energy". This goes for me all day long. Look at flowers. Happier. Look at flowers. Happier. Look at flowers..you get the idea.
Go buy some flowers and test the findings for yourself.

So, it makes SCIENTIFIC sense to have fabulous flowers on your wedding day. Tell that to your fiance if he's not feeling the love for flowers.

More Rustic Containers

August 11, 2009 Posted by - Mary Lois and Anna
A few more options of rustic fun containers are zinc tins (which can also have a more formal look), painted enamel tins (which you can buy in a variety of fun colors), blue mason jars (which you can find on EBay), and a rusty tin (which I'm obviously fond of because I've showed it more than a couple of times now).

By the way, we do make arrangements that don't have orange in them. Not very often, but we do, we can, honestly.

All flowers by Loop.

Vintage Wedding Containers

August 10, 2009 Posted by - Mary Lois and Anna
I love the vintage look. It goes perfectly with our style which is very soft and sweet and textured. A roundy moundy just wouldn't look so very hot in these containers. Flowers that are suitable and used here are garden roses, dahlias, peonies, sweet peas, and lavender.

The arrangements below were for a wedding at the Olema Inn in Inverness, CA. The containers were hand- painted quite some years ago by the bride's Grandmother. Double Sweetness. The white vintage containers  are from my personal collection.

If you plan your wedding early you can start collecting pieces like these on ebay, etsy,at flea markets, thrift stores, and yard sales. It's another way to go a little green. Every new thing we DON'T buy is one less dollar toward consumption and pollution. AND, it's a distinctive and sweet look. Start collecting now, then call me to do your wedding flowers.
